If Characters in a Mainstream Novel Could Talk…

“Noel, do you think our authors ever come to this website to see what we are up to while they are not around?”

“It’s not likely. Remember Rick Blaine in Casablanca’Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.’”

“What about it? That’s one of the most famous lines in the history of the cinema?”

“Well, these days there are a lot more websites than there ever were gin joints or even towns in the whole world.”

“But, still, Ilsa did find Rick!”

“Well, Marjorie, don’t worry about it. If any author is actually listening to us, he would be very silly to let us know about it.”

“Why’s that?”

“Because, it’s like eavesdropping, it doesn’t make much sense if you let the people know  you are doing it.”
