...Hi Ruth:

“Love on a Dime” is real fun to read.

“Edna’s Vow” is amazing. Once you get used to the writing style, everything else is top rate. There is a hook and a cliff hanger at the end of each chapter – so far. And the chapters are short only a few pages. The emotionalism just grabs you and won’t let go. In just a few chapters, less than 10% of the book, a mother and little child are driven from their home, lost in a snow storm in the country, and end up at the woman’s brother’s house who hates her husband and kicks her out into the snow as she is dying. He relents and takes her back into the small farm house. As she is dying she makes the brother’s daughter, just a few years older than her son, swear on a Bible that she will protect her son and make sure the uncle does not abandon him. The father it seems just died in prison.

In the next chapter, years have gone by and the boy and daughter are young adults. There is much more going on too. OMG, this author knows how to hold a reader! I can’t wait to read it all and see how much the author does that authors, with all their workshops are told to do today.

I think she may do it all. Back then, a dime was about one hour’s pay for a simple working girl. That’s like $8 today. That’s not cheap. These books were read and loved because they were enjoyed. More to come.

VinceVincehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12707773426729777989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-865657457488610097.post-24130614688209499852010-10-25T04:22:30.372-05:002010-10-25T04:22:30.372-05:00Vince, well done, my friend! Enveloping.

And how amazingly cool that you ordered Edna's Vow (well, WON it actually) from e-bay. Good job. And that opening is poetically gripping.

I love writing like that. Just love it. It grabs you and weaves you into the story setting seamlessly.

Hey, I've got coffee at Seekerville for when you drop by, my friend.Ruth Logan Hernehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11550734775151341968noreply@blogger.com
